WiFi & Connectivity Troubleshooting

Fix network connection issues, optimize WiFi performance, and resolve router compatibility problems.

Common Connectivity Issues

Solutions for WiFi and network problems

Radar won't connect to WiFi
High Priority

Symptoms

  • •Blinking blue or red LED on radar
  • •App shows "Unable to connect"
  • •WiFi setup times out

Solutions (try in order)

  1. 1Verify WiFi network is 2.4GHz (radar doesn't support 5GHz)
  2. 2Check WiFi password is correct (case-sensitive)
  3. 3Move radar closer to router during setup
  4. 4Restart router and wait 2 minutes before retrying
  5. 5Ensure network name doesn't have special characters
  6. 6Try different WiFi channel if router has many networks
  7. 7Reset radar WiFi settings and try setup again
Weak WiFi signal
Medium Priority

Symptoms

  • •Intermittent disconnections
  • •App shows low signal strength
  • •Radar frequently goes offline

Solutions (try in order)

  1. 1Move router closer to radar (within 10 meters recommended)
  2. 2Remove physical obstacles between router and radar
  3. 3Use WiFi extender or mesh network system
  4. 4Change router channel to less congested one
  5. 5Reposition radar antenna if external
  6. 6Check for interference from microwaves, baby monitors
Radar keeps disconnecting
High Priority

Symptoms

  • •Regular disconnection and reconnection
  • •Alert delivery is unreliable
  • •LED frequently turns red or blinks

Solutions (try in order)

  1. 1Check router stability with other devices
  2. 2Update router firmware to latest version
  3. 3Assign static IP to radar in router settings
  4. 4Disable router power saving features
  5. 5Check for router overheating issues
  6. 6Reduce number of devices on network
  7. 7Contact ISP if internet itself is unstable

WiFi Requirements

Network specifications for optimal radar performance

2.4GHz Network

Radar only works on 2.4GHz. Disable 5GHz band or use separate network names.

WPA2 Security

WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA/WPA2 Mixed. WEP and WPA3-only not supported.

Signal Strength

Minimum -70 dBm, recommended -60 dBm or better.

Internet Speed

Minimum 1 Mbps upload, 2 Mbps download recommended.

Recommended Router Settings

Optimal configuration for Guardian compatibility

Network Mode

Recommended
802.11 b/g/n mixed mode
Avoid
5GHz only, ac-only mode

Channel Width

Recommended
20 MHz
Avoid
40 MHz or Auto (can cause issues)

Security Type

Recommended
WPA2-PSK (AES)
Avoid
WEP, WPA3-only, Open network

DHCP

Recommended
Enabled (or static IP assigned)
Avoid
Disabled without manual IP config

Firewall

Recommended
Allow outbound on ports 443, 8883
Avoid
Blocking all outbound traffic

Signal Optimization Tips

Improve WiFi reliability and range

Router Placement
  • Place router in central location
  • Elevate router off the floor
  • Keep away from walls and metal objects
  • Point antennas vertically
Reduce Interference
  • Move microwave away from router
  • Keep baby monitors on different channel
  • Avoid Bluetooth speakers near router
  • Turn off unused wireless devices
Network Optimization
  • Use less congested WiFi channel (1, 6, or 11)
  • Limit bandwidth-heavy activities during critical times
  • Enable QoS for Guardian traffic
  • Update router firmware regularly

Systematic Troubleshooting

Step-by-step diagnostic process

1Check Physical Setup
  • Router is powered on and working
  • Radar is within WiFi range
  • No obvious interference sources
  • Antennas properly connected
2Verify Network Settings
  • Network is 2.4GHz
  • SSID is visible (not hidden)
  • Password is correct
  • Security type is WPA2
3Test Connection
  • Other devices can connect
  • Internet is working
  • Speed test shows adequate bandwidth
  • No ISP outages in area
4Reset and Retry
  • Restart router
  • Reset radar WiFi
  • Clear app cache
  • Try setup process again

Advanced Network Issues

Solutions for complex router configurations

Double NAT Issues
Router behind another router causing connection problems
Solution

Put ISP modem in bridge mode or use DMZ for main router

MAC Filtering Active
Router blocking unknown device MAC addresses
Solution

Add radar MAC address to router whitelist (found in app)

VPN Conflicts
VPN on router interfering with radar connection
Solution

Exclude radar IP from VPN tunnel or disable VPN

AP Isolation Enabled
Guest network preventing device communication
Solution

Connect radar to main network, not guest network

Note: Advanced router configuration should only be performed by someone familiar with networking. Incorrect settings can affect all devices on your network.
